Drakadeemia started in 2008 as the first independent playwriting programme in Estonia. In just a few years it grew into a fully functioning school offering various courses in creative writing and playwriting. Through our activities we aim to encourage a wide range of work and voices to enter the new writing scene.

The plays of Drakadeemia graduates have won national playwriting competitions, and been successfully produced by state funded and independent theatre companies.  Many course participants have also published their work in print as well as gone on to write for the television.

Who we are

The founder and general manager of Drakadeemia is Siret Campbell (formerly Paju) who graduated from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London in 2008. Since then she has been teaching creative writing and playwriting in Estonia and internationally. She also works as a dramaturg, a play script consultant and a director.

The rest of the staff includes Mihkel Seeder (assistant mananger of Drakadeemia; tutor), Piret Jaaks (head of communications; tutor) and Marite H. Butkaite (tutor).

Our workshops take place all over Estonia and online.

International collaboration

We are open for international collaboration with like-minded institutions. This can take place through exchange programmes and activities, or visiting artists and guest speakers.

We are also very interested in the new writing scene in countries near and far!
